About The Homestead

My husband and I have always enjoyed the idea of self-sufficient living. We don't expect to ever live entirely off the grid, as both of us have internet-related jobs. I'm a web designer, and he's a programmer and developer. Neither one of us was raised in a homestead. We both grew up in the suburbs. We have a good idea how to manage a household, but we're learning as we go through the setting-up process.

The idea behind this blog is to share our experiences with others. We recently bought a beautiful (and thankfully livable) log cabin with nearly two acres of land out in a rural area of western Massachusetts. Aside from the already existent domicile, we're really starting from scratch. This can be an incredibly intimidating process, but we have the determination necessary. We're hoping that this blog proves valuable to anyone in a similar position, or provides inspiration to those who have only considered the homesteading life.

The projects featured here will vary in size and complexity. Some will work just fine for the apartment-dweller, while others will be concerned with landscaping or construction. If you ever have any questions, comments, or suggestions about what we've done or how we did it, please share! We would love to know whether we helped you, or whether we could have done something better. Ideas for new projects are also much appreciated.

The Animals

All of our animals are pampered pets, and they are all rescues. While we do "harvest the byproduct" of angora from rabbits, our animals are never, ever harmed during their grooming process. I am a huge proponent of ethical angora.
